To send a letter to the participants, you don't need a mailing status. You can send letters based on event, balance, way of payment etc. To prevent extra work, please check first if you do need mailing statuses.

There are 2 ways to add a mailing status to a participant.
You can do this via the participant module -> custom emails -> Assign participant mailing status
Select the participant(s) that need a certain status, click the envelope icon in the top of the table and choose the mailing status the selected participants need.
Other bulk actions
Use the 'Checkbox selection tool' to 'Select From / To' and 'Deselect From / To' to allow you to quickly select or deselect a range of checkboxes. Click on one checkbox, then click on another, and both these checkboxes and all checkboxes in between will be selected or deselected.
'Select By ID' is only available when the table includes an ID column, and allows you to select your desired checkboxes by entering comma-separated IDs into the dialog.
Other way to assign the mailing status
You can also add/change the status via the participants list. Edit the participant and in the bottom of the screen you can change the mailing status.
